The Tanzania Employment service Agency (Taesa) Internship program with SUGECO
Boaz Laban Swilla is a graduate of the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) with a bachelor's degree in Horticulture production. He is an intern at SUGECO through the Tanzania Employment Service Agency (TaESA) program under the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Labor, Youth, Employment and People with Disabilities where graduates are attached to different organizations/Companies for 12 months to equip, coach, and mentor them with basic workplace knowledge, skills, and work ethics, for professional development and to meet employer expectations. While at SUGECO, they are exposed to different hands-on activities to help them to acquire necessary skills and knowledge through the SUGECO programs.
“The program has benefited me including expanding my network as well as getting an opportunity to interact with my fellow graduates from different courses like Agriculture General, Accountants, Agricultural Engineering, Marketing and Information Technology who are also attached to SUGECO for the internship program and help me to connect what I learned from the university and how I can integrate into their courses,” Said Boaz
“So through this program, I have managed to gain hands-on skills because at the university courses are based more on theory while at SUGECO programs are based on hands-on practice. I have gained additional knowledge on installing drip irrigation systems and I see SUGECO is a better place for me because I have added something important in my career which will enable me to do agribusiness.” He added
The internship program has helped Boaz to transform his perception and thinking, towards Agriculture. He is now thinking of engaging himself in Agribusiness after the completion of the internship program.
